Helen Crawford

Textile and mixed media artist

She studied textiles during teacher training at Avery Hill College, later completing City & Guilds Embroidery at Malvern Hills College. In 2003, she graduated with an HNC in Stitched Textiles from Gloucester College of Art and Technology, where she began exploring the expressive possibilities of silk paper—now a signature element of her work.

Helen draws inspiration from seasonal and atmospheric changes observed during walks through woodlands and open landscapes of the Malvern Hills, the Brecon Beacons, and the wild coastlines of Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, and Scotland.  She explores shifting light, colours, and textures of the natural world using blends of silk paper, acrylic on felt, stitch, collage, watercolour, and mixed media to produce evocative framed landscapes, seascapes, and birch tree studies.
