PORCELAIN

About Gabrielle Rucinski

Gabrielle Rucinski is a ceramicist and designer based in Malvern, UK. She completed a BA in Art and Design at Coventry University and a MA specialising in glass at Wolverhampton University. Gabrielle works mainly with porcelain, drawn to the translucency of this material.

Forms and texture of plants, grasses and natural objects, provide the starting point for her work. She likes to use the whiteness of the porcelain as a malleable canvas, texturing and embossing the surface with fabric and natural elements to create the suggestion of imagery. As she builds her ceramics she allows the material to help determine the direction of the form.

Her work is enhanced with coloured mineral oxides, which create subtle translucent colours when fired.
